The editorial mission of Cardio-Oncology is to advance the science and practice of this emerging field to find a balance between oncologic efficacy and reducing adverse cardiovascular effects through timely publication and dissemination of peer-reviewed research. As an open access, online journal Cardio-Oncology provides a high visibility platform for the publication of original research and expert reviews on the cardiovascular effects of cancer treatment. Practical approaches to care
We're excited to announce a new Cardio-Oncology initiative: "Practical Approaches to Cardio-Oncology Care." We invite manuscripts dealing with state-of-the-art management of common clinical cardio-oncology issues and toxicities, e.g., “How to manage pericardial effusions.” As part of a new series, we will offer expedited reviews for rapid processing. Cardiotoxicity of novel anti-cancer therapies
For this Cardio-Oncology article collection, we welcome submissions examining cardiotoxicity caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy, molecular-targeted agents, and immune-modulating agents. Cardio-Oncology is the official journal of the International Cardio-Oncology Society (ICOS). The society brings together cardio-oncologists from around the world with the aim of reducing cardiovascular disease in cancer patients and thereby saving patients' lives. Thomas D. Ryan, MD, PhD
Thomas D. Ryan, MD, PhD, FAAP, FACC, FAHA is the Director of Clinical Operations in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure Program, and the founding Co-Director of the Cardio-Oncology Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). He is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics-Clinical at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Dr. Ryan graduated magna cum laude from Wichita State University with a BS in Biological Sciences and earned both an MD and PhD at the University of Alabama School of Medicine/University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed general pediatrics residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship at CCHMC and was the first graduate of the CCHMC Heart Institute’s Advanced Fellowship in Pediatric Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Cardiac Transplantation.
Dr. Ryan’s clinical and research interests focus on inherited and acquired cardiomyopathy as well as cardiac transplantation. He has particular emphasis on patients who have developed heart dysfunction because of cancer-related therapies. He has published over 70 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and is author of 10 textbook chapters. He was on the founding Leadership Council for the Cardio-Oncology Member Section of the American College of Cardiology and was the first Chair of the Pediatric Working Group. Dr. Ryan serves as Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board at CCHMC, as well as Section Editor for the journal Cardio-Oncology.

Conger Goodyear Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York; the Chief of Service of Pediatrics at Kaleida Health; the Medical Director of Pediatric Services Business Development at John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital; President of UBMD Pediatrics (University at Buffalo Pediatric Associates, Inc.); and a Consultant in Pediatrics and Cardio-Oncology for the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Joseph Carver is the Bernard Fishman Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania, the Chief Operating Officer of the Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute of the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania and the Chief of Staff of the Abramson Cancer Center.
Giorgio Minotti, Deputy Editor
Giorgio Minotti is Professor of Pharmacology, Head of Drug Sciences and Clinical Pharmacology, Chief of Clinical Trial Center, at the University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome. His research interests focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and clinical correlates of anticancer drugs cardiovascular toxicity.
